Auckland International Airport
When you travel to New Zealand from another country, you’ll probably arrive here at one of four
major airports — Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch,
or Queenstown. Auckland International Airport is New Zealand’s
largest and busiest airport. Most overseas visitors to New Zealand arrive here. It is located south-west of the city of Auckland in the suburb of Mangere.
Transport Options
Taxi:
About $65 — About 30 Minutes
Auckland is serviced by a large number of taxi companies. The airport-to-city taxi fare is approximately $65 and takes about 30—40 minutes, depending on traffic. Because
Auckland traffic can be heavy at certain times of the day, allow ample time when travelling from the city to the airport.
Taxis licensed to operate from the airport carry a value and service guarantee. Auckland Airport taxi stands are situated on the western side of the International Terminal
(turn left as you exit the Customs Hall) and directly outside the Domestic terminals.
Shuttle: About $20 — About 40 Minutes
Airport shuttles provide economical transport between the airport and the city.
Rides are usually shared by a number of passengers. Fares to the city range from $18—25,
depending on how close to the central city you wish to go. If more than one person is travelling together, then discounts apply. The journey into the city can take between
30 minutes and one hour, depending on the number of drop-offs along the way.
Shuttles depart from the western side of the International Terminal (turn left as you exit the Customs Hall) and directly outside the Domestic Terminals.
If you are travelling to Auckland Airport by shuttle, make sure you allow plenty of time, as journeys can take longer if there are a number of people to be picked up
along the way.
Private Airport Tranfers: About $60 — About 30 Minutes
A great way to get to the city, or if your going further afield. These companies provide private pre-booked transfers to or from Auckland airport, across town or
city to city at pre-chartered prices. Pre-Chartered prices mean you know the cost before you start. NO hidden charges,
like airport fees, luggage surcharge or weekend rates. Monday to Sunday, rain
hail or shine, traffic jams & stoppages, the price is fixed. For more information click here.
Bus:
$13 (Adult Fare) — About an Hour
Auckland is served by the AirBus airport-to-city bus service. This bus departs every 20 minutes during the day, and every 30 minutes at night. The first bus departs from
the airport at 6:20am and the last at 10:00pm.
The adult fare on the Airbus is $13 one way or $22 return. The child fare (4—14 years) is $6 one way or $12 return. The fare for Backpacker and Student Card holders
is $11 one way or $18 return. If you are travelling with surfboards, snowboards, or bikes (boxed only allowed), you will be charged an additional $6.
Reservations on AirBus are not required — tickets are available from the driver. You should allow about an hour to travel to the city.
Airbuses depart from the front of the International (turn left as you exit the Customs Hall) and Domestic Terminals.
Travel Between International and Domestic Terminal
Free — 5 Minutes

both the Air New Zealand and Qantas Domestic terminals. There is also a walkway between the International and Domestic Terminals.
